Well. What have I learned from the first ten days of the 100 days project?
Firstly – it’s not as easy as I thought. I think I may have even bragged about how good I was at coming up with ideas. Well, seems creating an idea a day is tricky.
Secondly – it’s testing my idea and understanding of the story. To be honest the ten pieces I’ve written so far are simply sequences of events – and boring ones at that.
I realised quickly that just because I could write a good opening line it does not necessarily mean a good story will follow.
Trying to come up with an idea as you begin is backwards – have the idea before you start. I keep writing a few lines then I get stuck and it’s because I don’t actually have a plan/plot/story/idea.
Telling an entire story in less than 500 words is hard.
Imbuing meaning into a story in less than 500 words is hard.
Writing takes longer than you think.
Doubt will only slow you down.
You can do it – keep going.
The first draft is always shit.
